You keed a ford enhanced scanner. The cheap ones will not pull the codes off the diesels. I'm thinking its something with the (IVS) idle validation switch. It tells the PCM to go off idle and take the input from the TPS (throttle position sensor). You can push all the way down on the accelerator but if that IVS doesnt make contact it will just continue to idle. If memory serves correctly the IVS has a two wire connector comming off of the accelerator and the TPS has three wires. Also do you have a chip? It sounds like it may be a loose connection because of the lights comming on. If it was (CPS) Cam Position Sensor it would stall and require turning the key off then back on.
