The tip of the shifter, if worn, can limit the travel of the shift rail, but the issue is probably rear in the shift fork, detent ball/spring, and teeth on the splines of both the gear and the input spline. The forward edge of the shifter slot in the 4th-5th rail can also be built up to increase the travel forward of the rail. There is a detent ball in the rail mount held into the rail notch with a spring. THe spring can become very weak. The total shift engagement on a New H is about 1/2" of shifter movement at the knob. I'll bet yours moves less than 1/8" from the tips of the splines touching to the point the lever stops moving. Good luck, and happy new year. Jim
