This M does not have a generator, nor an alternator. Magneto, I guess? How do I know? I hooked the battery up negative ground and cranked. Starter is fine, cranks great. But will not start. After several minutes I checked the battery cables and they were soooo HOT. Lights work fine. I then tried to hook up the battery as positive ground. This can not be done as the sparks are so big, and hot, it even looks like the lead battery cable leads are melting. Needless to say, I re-hooked it back up negative ground, but still no start. Darkness caught up with me, but does anyone have a suggestion about what might be wrong now? How do I check a magneto? I have not checked that spark is getting to the plugs but will this evening. Appreciate all the help. Lee West
