Stupid H question

My H has a slow leak(occaisional drips) around the PTO shaft. I live in the city & drive 65 miles to the farm on the weekends. I left my manual at the farm so I can't look up the answer before going down this weekend(I want to take anything I need). Questions:
1)Where & how do I check the fluid level
2)What does it take (fluid)
3)Do I have a potential problem or is it just another case of old tractors, puppies,& little babies leak Thanks
