One of my Majors does have a problem. The seal between the trans and rear end is no good. The oil runs from the trans into the rear end so that the trans is always low and the rear end is high on oil. (The trans is physically higher than the rear end and the oil equalizes is what I am saying.) I park the tractor heading down into a ditch. The oil goes back and fills the trans but it doesn't stay there. Gears 3 and 4 are especially "growly" 1 and 2 to a lesser extent. A neigbor drove it to pull my bigger tractor and it slipped out of 3rd. He might not had it fully in gear, that has never happened to me. I run it the way it is. I know that is not good but if I tore into it to fix how far do you go and where do you stop? I only gave $1000 US for the tractor. It doesn't owe me anything. Has been this way for the 6 years I have owned it. I only carry bales, post hole digger, hay rake, etc with it. No continuous heavy pulling. Use 5th gear 90% of the time. Engine uses a little oil but I think that is mostly leaks. If it had a major engine breakdown I probably would junk the tractor.
