third party image

Here it is shortly after driving it home. I had tochange out 1 rear wheel as the rim was rusted through and would not hold air.

Hey John!! THERE'S the rest of your tractor!! what do you mean it's not pretty...it's looking great!! i had a feelin' you were workin' on her last night. i've been sitting here with my morning coffee for about 20 minutes just studying everything you did. lotta nice work there. by the way...i've seen tractors that had bondo in the "bibs"...i think there's too much flex in the hood parts cuz every one i've seen that was bondo-ed was all cracked and falling out. i'd leave it just like it is if i was you, it looks fine. i can't believe your tractor has the original side emblems still there. yours is the first one i've seen with them still in place. if you ever decide to clean them and your badge up, you might find the original green background paint underneath. my badge had it, but i didn't realize it until i had cleaned right thru some of it...i wish i had, might been able to save it.
my hood doesn't lay right either. i've messed with it and studied on it and still can't figure out how to get it to lay flat. i kinda think maybe the hood gets "humped up" or something over time and abuse and it's just the way it is.
i have a measurement i need to send you on that control valve bracket i made. as soon as i get it i'll send you a post. it's great to see your tractor in one piece, great job john!

PS...i meant to say i've never been able to get my hood's "sevice door" to lay flat when it's latched. one theory i have is that my hinge pins have been replaced with screws, and i'm wondering if there was some kind of "roller" or something that pulled the hinged side of the door down flat as you latch it....????

I'll try to take a couple of pix of the hood service panel hinges and latches and show you what I did to get mine to lay down. The biggest problem on mine was the service door was longer than the opening (1/16") which I don't understand unless its been replaced. I also had to modify the front cross piece that the tach sets on. If you look at the before pix you can see it does not close in the front

my biggest problem with the fit of the service door is that the door itself is pretty much straight/flat, where the hood seems "arched" or curved from front to back. the hood has been welded in a couple places around the service door opening which has probably either distorted the hood or it wasn't lined up right when it was welded. i CAN close the sevice door and it latches, but it isn't fitting right...and it can get the most annmoying "squeak" you ever heard going when i'm out working. it about drives me nuts (short drive) so i just reach up and unlatch the front latch and it goes away.

I greased under the cross pieces where the hinges pins run and mine quited down and works much easier now
