It was a cool but sunny day. No new calves today but doing chores this afternoon I took some pictures of course.
All the cold nasty winter days doing chores are long gone now and their memory grows more distant daily. Spring is my favorite time of the year as the prarie comes back to life again. This is my favorite place to be. These are some of the cows that have calves. Watching these calves will brighten anyones day!
I caught this little guy sleeping very soundly while mom watched on. If you look closely you can see her nose in the pic. We had to help this little guy get going. He was born thursday morning and we hadnt seen him nurse so in the afternoon we put mom in the chute and showed him the ropes. He figured it out after some coaching from nick and I. Even had a audience as some of the county higway department workers that were working on replacing a culvert came over to watch. Alot of times if we have to work with a calf much they will get a name, somehow this one escaped without a nick name. Yet, he will come up to us and want to be petted a little. This makes everytime I got wet, cold and covered in poo taking care of the cows totally worthwhile! I love spring. bill
