Thanks for any help. : : : : Sounds like the belt could be routed wrong which is causing it to work against itself. Try having the guy you bought it from look at it. Is your engine strong (powerful). Are you using the correct diameter drive pulley. Check these items and let us know it it works. Good luck. : : : Well, I am using the same pulleys as came with it, I assume they are the right ones. I will check the belt routing, but we did tie the rear part of the belt together with string so as not to get it messed up when I reinstalled it. The motor was rebuilt, so it should be strong. I have a blade for the front that I use for snow and light dirt removal and it seems to have good power. I will check the belt again and make sure it is right. I didn't remove the front part that routes through the blade pulleys, just loosened the rear idlers and removed the belt from the tractor, so it should be okay. Will check and verify. : : Is your governor kicking in OK? If not, your engine will bog down. I have a 5 foot IH mower on my Cub and it handles it OK. I usually cut in first gear, and you do have to do some clutch slipping when first starting out because the engine is trying to get everything moving at the same time. You also may have to tweak your carb. a little bit, because the strain of the mower deck is different than any other load you've probably put on the engine. Keep us posted.
: One more thing if everything else is OK. Check the pitch of the deck, the front of the blades should be slightly lower than the rear. You would be surprised at how much difference this proper adjustment makes. Also be aware that a cub with an L59 is going to be a shade underpowered no matter what.
: Curt The governor seems to work fine, I didn't check the pitch of the deck, it seems that it is almost completely flat when I lower it though. I didn't know it should be lower than the front. Will check that as well. My father-in-law is coming over tonight to look at it, maybe I can have some more info tomorrow. I can tell you that in the rear, (from the deck to the idlers) I have a 3/4 twist in the left belt, the right side has a 1/4 twist. I am sure that is what the woods manual said it should be, but I will check again. Will I always have to mow in first gear with this deck?? Could I mow in second if I had a 48 inch deck?? Also, this deck discharges grass from both sides, is this right?? It is open on either side. Maybe they are all like that, I don't know.
