There are about 7,200 FFA chapters across the country. FFA is different than nearly any other school activity because it is "intra-curricular" meaning that students must take at least 1 agricultural education class each year in order to be an FFA member (FFA also has a federal charter from Congress). Although FFA is rooted in farming, it tries to focus on all of agriculutre - food, fiber, natural resources. As for its current success, FFA is nearing a record high in membership with over 500,000 student members.
As an ag teacher myself, I hate to hear about situations where 1 bad FFA advisor gives people a negative opinion of FFA. Most advisors I know are hard working, dedicated individuals that will do anything to help kids learn and be successful.
