As the headlong rush of spring is now here, lets all take a moment to remind ourselfs to not get complacent about safety. An hour and a half ago, I was walking in from the Machine shed and heard a helicopter. I recognized it to be the Medivac. I also saw it was slowing and decending. I jumped in the truck to see what was up. A neighbor has the local manure pit pumpers in. They were loading tankers with one tractor and agitating with two more. Somehow, something went wrong in one of the pumps used for agitating. somehow, a valve leaked or opened, causing the capped discharge pipe to become pipe to become preasurized on its storage rack. The preasure shattered a connecting clamp and shot a ten foot section if pipe through the back window of the tractor cab, hitting the operator. I hesitate to repete the sequence of events that I was told followed, as while I trust the scorce, I feel that they are a little to unbelavable to repete. All I can say is that I was told the operator was alive when taken to the chopper. So lets all send prayrs for the young man, and do all that we can to have a safe spring.
