Based on the specs the John Deere is a better tractor but it is a basic tractor. The M40 series Kubota is a very reliable tractor that is very nice to operate. Not quite the weight of the John Deere and likely not quite the price. I can tell you from experience that a M7040 is a joy to operate. You sit up good and high and have a very good view of the loader or just infront of you. It rides very smooth at all speeds. The only thing I have found wrong with it is the shifting. It can be really hard to shift the gears and the hi-lo can be very very hard to shift. The hyd shuttle is very smooth. The digital readout of ground speed and pto is another nice feature is also nice. It does lack gears but the gears it has are all well placed. Kubota has a name for their engines but in this case John Deere went cheap. The jd is slower spinning than the Kubota but the engine is also smaller. The kubota also has less electronics with much less to go wrong. I'm not necessarily biased of Kubota here but have no experience with John Deere. Likely a good tractor but never been on one. Would have to drive it and use it to know what I prefer.

Jon's Allis has a small front loader and though it doesn't carry much, it serves his needs. It was the hard starting and low power that made him think it was time to replace the old girl. Jon called me to help him discover why his tractor wouldn't start
