Hello Hank.
When I was a youngster there was a retired Ford mechanic who lived just down the road, he had built himself a nice shop at home so I would go watch him and pass tools and cleanup his shop just for the chance to watch and maybe learn something from him. He had a procedure he called a "secret weld" to repair cracked vehicle blocks. He would have them bring their car or pickup overnight for him to fix the cracked block. The customer was'nt allowed to stay and watch any part of the secret weld procedure. His "secret weld" was the liquid glass. Only thing he did different was that he would cover the radiator with cardbord and raise the engine temp to extremly hot after he added the sodium and put back on the cap so it did'nt boil over too bad. He would let the engine run about 15-20 minutes after it got super hot and then take the cardboard off to let it have air and circulate as it cooled down while running. He charged $65 to secret weld the engines and I think the sodium was about $1.50 per quart or so. There were several of the larger dealers and garages who brought vehicles to him because he was the only one around that could secret weld and fix cracked blocks.
