I find it easier to think of these things in practical terms. We all know that an inch of rain is a good, soaking, plant growing, drink of water. Well, each square foot of field gets 144 square inches of water during a 1 inch rain. So one acre would get 144 (inches of rain) x 43560 (square feet in an acre) or 6,272,640 cubic inches of rain per acre. Google says that a gallon contains 231 cubic inches of liquid.
So 6,272,640 cubic inches of water divided by 231 sq. inches per gallon = 27,154 gallons of water per acre in a 1 inch rain. Those clouds do some mighty impressive weight lifting.
And yes,I can google all of this easily. But, if I always google it, petty soon I get to be like the kid that needs a calculator to figure out how many 50 cent pieces of candy he can buy with $5 bucks.
