We have had one for about 6 years. We decieded that the tractor was designed by the engineers as a joke and accidently got built. All in all its a fairly reliable little tractor but it just isnt very user friendly. You will cuss and swear and maybe bleed a little whenever you need to swap the PTO, the salesman says its easy but wont do it himself. Every once in awhile something happens to the electronics in the powershift and you cant shift. You have to stop the engine and restart it to get it working. The 3 point is another issue, for a pretty much idiot proof system they have in the Magnums they really could have done better in the maxiums. Another thing is gelling in the winter, we have a 7120, 8920, and a small jd diesel that we use blended fuel in during winter and they run fine below zero, but our 5140 will start gelling up between 10 and zero. We got rid of a 1086 IH for this and have often wondered if we went backwards. Like i said, it seem to be real reliable just lots of inconviences. Some of these things could just be gremlins in ours and have no reflection on the rest of the fleet.

Jon's Allis has a small front loader and though it doesn't carry much, it serves his needs. It was the hard starting and low power that made him think it was time to replace the old girl.
