This allows access to the drive shaft and couplings on the trans countershaft. Remove the cotter pins and the shaft will come out. Now the issue is lowering the pump. It is heavy and awkward. Putting threaded rod into the bolt holes and using nuts on the rod to lower it is easy and safe, and slow. Using a floor jack, and another person is fast and OK if careful.
