If the drain plug doesnt have a magnet on it try and find a plug with a magnet.Then run it a while and pull it out and check for metal.If you have a lot of metal on the magnet I would pull it out and put bearings in it if it costed less for bearings than a low mileage one from a junkyard.Once the bearings go out of something it tears up lots more things and even could bust the case.Thats the way we used to do big trucks.A set of bearings for a big truck 10 speed transmission used to cost 300 dollars,probably 5 or 6 or more now.I have no idea what they would cost for a Ford.Probably more than a used transmission.
