You'll find it a lot better than your Kia Sportage - a 2002 Sportage 4X4 is only rated at 2000 pounds towing.

My inspection papers have my Kia rated at 1800 kg, could be hitch design and speed limits also. Wife called about one of the Cherokees (your Liberty) and was told 2800 kg. Stopping is not a problem because all trailers over 750 kg max weight have a toung (pressure) activated brake system. It's just the pulling. If it's a step up from the Sporty, it should be OK.
