I just got an old F-350. My wife tried to register it for me, but they wouldn't do it because I didn't initial my signature or some such. Anyway, they said because of the GVW I needed commercial or Farm Truck plates. Farm Truck plates are much cheaper, but she asked about restrictions since I don't want this vehicle restricted to 100% farm use. They told her it was fine as long as it was "primarily used for farming".
I've looked up rules and statutes, and don't see anything about this. The statute just says Farm Trucks are for hauling farm goods only. I'm afraid I'll get pulled over driving it to work one day and get slapped with a nice fine. All I have to go on is the DMV clerk's word. Does anyone else have any opinions/info?
P.S. if i get Farm Truck plates, they are going to make me pay sales tax even though it's farm equipment. The weird thing is, if it had Farm Truck plates when I bought it, I would not have to pay sales tax. The weirder thing is if it had Farm Truck plates when I bought it and I registered it as a Commercial vehicle, I would NOT have to pay sales tax. Isn't that bass ackwards?
