Here is one for you tinkerer’s out there. I have two David Brown 990 tractors. One (David Sr.) is ’63 Implematic, the other (David Jr.) is a ’67 Selectamatic. I would like to put one of them on steel wheels for a particular job I would like to tackle this spring. The reason for the steel is purely functional. Are there steel wheels out there that would fit these tractors or (the reason for the post) is there any way of making up a set of wheels from a set of old rims. I was thinking if I could find an old set of rims that would fit the bolt pattern of the centers, I could weld lugs across the rims and end up with a functional steel wheel. I realize that ground clearance would be reduced considerably, but that should not be a problem for the job I am considering. I think that David Jr. would be best suited for this conversion. I may be way off base with this idea, so I would appreciate any input you guys (or gals) might have. I will give you some measurements that might help to identify compatible rims. Dave Sr. (’63 Implematic 990) 16.9 X 30 rear tires 6 bolt hub centers 32" rim diameter (lip) 6 bolt rim with ½" studs 24 ½" diameter stud to stud center 7.50 X 16 front tires 6 bolt hub 17 ½" rim diameter (lip) 6" diameter stud to stud center David Jr. (’67 Selectamatic 990) 13.9 X 36 rear tires 8 bolt hub centers 38" rim diameter (lip) 8 bolt rim with ½" studs 28 ½" diameter stud to stud center 7.50 X 16 front tires 6 bolt hub 17 ½" rim diameter (lip) 6" diameter stud to stud center

Tractor Hydraulics - The Basics - by Curtis Von Fange. Hydraulics was one of the greatest inventions for helping man compound the work he can do. It’s amazing how a little floor jack can lift tons and tons of weight with just the flick of a handle. What’s even more amazing is that all the principals of hydraulic theory can be wrapped up in such a small package. This same package applies to any hydraulic system from the largest bulldozer to the oldest and smallest tractor. This short series will take a look at the basic layout of a simple hydraul
