We just got back from a little 1500 mile road trip to Minneapolis to visit some of my wife's family that hasn't met our 11 month old son: a great trip, beautiful autumn scenery, did a little shopping, picked up some ag parts, collected some acorns, and got away from our hobby farm for longer than 3 days for the first time in 5 years. Our son is a happy little guy. We're all healthy, and I'm staying home to look after him this winter (he's too young for the community daycare). I'm looking forward to seeing him grow. I recently graduated from an environmental technician program at the regional college after an ugly layoff: looking forward to changing my stars in the spring. I found enough land this summer to put up enough hay for the entire year. That should save us some significant cash. I'm a part time farrier who has a slowly growing clientele, and I look forward to enjoying the pork and lamb that we've raised. My wife and I have had a good talk the other day about running these horses as more of a business, and that means trimming some fat around here. We're doing everything we can to keep things affordable, but still have to grab from our savings to pay for this money-grabbing hobby. With any luck, we'll be back in the positive by spring, and able to start saving to build a house on our other property, the ultimate goal.
