Curious where you are at. I"m in Northern Ca; Sonoma/Napa county. Lots of wine production.
Pumice is a good supplemental feed. It is a silable material and has the same problems as any silage. If you don"t feed it out quickly, it will rot and can be a source of listerosis. I have kept it in barrels. Resealable plastic are best, though I mostly used metal. Remember, it is the air that is problematic as to the rotting of this material. Sometimes the paint in a metal can will peel from this feed, so watch that. Make sure any barrels you use had food grade material in them prior to your use. I would take this stuff in bulk here, but I do not know of a reasonable way to ensile large amounts. It is similar to feeding brewer"s waste.
Remember that any sudden change in fed, especially when fed in quantity can affect the rumen. Also note, I fed this pumice to beef cattle, not dairy. I have no idea if this could put the flavor of milk off. I suspect it might. The stems from wine production may also be fed and with less problems than feeding pumice.

Jon's Allis has a small front loader and though it doesn't carry much, it serves his needs. It was the hard starting and low power that made him think it was time to replace the old girl. Jon called me to help him discover why his tractor wouldn't start
