Well, I've posted my opinion several times on ethanol and it always gets deleted. I'll try one more time, otherwise, I give up.
I'm posting these under my registered handle. If I'm somehow running afoul of management's opinions or rules (as opposed to a technical problem that is just losing the messages), you have my email address to tell me why, if you care to.
I would submit that oil and gas reserves are a NON-RENEWABLE resource AND that they are being depleted at a rate at which, compared to the overall stocks is alarming.
Therefore, if we are truly exhausting a non-renewable resource, it behooves us as a society to explore alternatives.
So who cares if it is currently economically feasible within a couple of dollars per gallon or bushel right now??? Why quibble over that?
As current reserves are depleted, it is an almost certainty (barring some huge new development in nuclear energy) that it WILL BE FEASIBLE AND NECESSARY AT SOME POINT.
Some think that point is already here. For example, Brazilian sugar cane ethanol. They get 30% of their automotive fuel from ethanol right now!
Some think that point is coming soon. For example, those that think US subsidies propping up new exploratory business ventures are a good idea.
And apparently some think that point will never arrive. For example, those that think oil stocks will last forever and the current rise in price is a massive scam and that we shouldn't be looking for alternatives.
Besides, every alternative we can come up with will lessen our dependence on countries like Venezuela and those in the Middle East.
