Not to say that this kid is too bright.... but you need not expect too many people/kids today to have any idea about old Detroits. You might stop and consider that Series 60 with DDEC came out something like 20-25 years ago and that combined with the B series Cummins pretty well nailed the coffin shut on those old screamers because the 60 series replaced the 71/92 series highway engines and the B series abolished the 53 series industrial applications. I took heavy equipment repair in high school in the mid-90's and the only reason I know anything about the old Detroits is because my teacher was a Detroit man. Save that I'd know absolutely nothing about them... Even at that time we spent a lot more time on Cummins, Cat and the various Bosch/CAV/Standyne fuel systems rather than Detroit. For all their infamy, I've only ever seen probably a dozen of the damn old things, and that's about enough in my books... They were the most efficient contraption ever devised for converting diesel fuel into noise and smoke.
