Well...I keep hearing that, but you know, Dad was a trucker pulling oversize loads all over the country. After he lost part of his face because of a chain breaking...he never used another chain or cable. He got the big wide straps and that is all he ever used. I have pulled tractors from all over the country and no one has ever said a word to me. I trailered a JD 820D and a Super MTAD from Indiana to Texas just last Fall and even sat and drank a cup of coffee with a State Trooper in Kentucky as he looked at my junk, and he never said a word. I guess if push come to shove I would hang a chain or two on one just to meet the requirements, but I will and continue to use straps. I see big rigs on the road all the time using straps and they must cross scales and do the inspection thing. I even rented a car hauler trailer when I brought the old IH pickup back and it had straps and tire webs on it...not chains. Each to his own.
