OT, kids stumped me

Talking about gas with the kids, trying to explain to them how the current ethanol boom is actually increasing the demand for oil( my opinion- save your bashing), and the discussion led to where oil comes from. Well, leave it up to the 7 year old that just lost a tooth to ask, "when they suck out the oil, what happens to the space that the oil was, do's it grow new oil like my tooth, or does it leave a pocket in my world" I couldnt answer him, can any of you?
