By modern standards the F header control is pretty crude. The basic system is a skid plate that makes contact with a bell crank with a roller on one end and a cable to the hydraulic height control valve on the other. The key to getting it set right is to have your helper springs adjusted properly, and the hydraulic bypass set properly. At that point all you do is put the height control lever in the float position and take off. You can adjust the height then by turning the adjusting knob on the outside of the cab.
