Not sure what the others will think, but I have seen engines like that run fine with no problems. If it is truly below where the piston runs, and there is no other damage it should be ok. BUT! What caused it, and are there other issues that can not be seen? My guess is a bent or broken con rod? Saw one a few years ago on a Toyota diesel that had picked up water through the inlet. Hyrdaulicked in the combustion chamber, bent a con rod and broke a piece out of the liner. Was fine with another rod and piston fitted. God Bless, Rex
