Well, Could have been, I guess. Back when they were changing over to the '86 series, all kinds of strange things happened. The very last of the 66 series got the 86 rear ends so guess maybe a 966 engine slipping into a 1086 is sure possible. It would sure be interesting to know tho. If your FIL's tractor has a 436 engine, that would make it a 986 with the wrong stamps. If on the other hand, it is has a 414 without a blower, that indeed is very unusual. :>) Are you sure it isn't a 186? That would be a 986 sized hydro tractor and therefore wouldn't have the huffer.
