I miss the sound of the old piston-engine bombers. When I was a kid in the 50's we had lots of them around, since we had two active Air Force bases just west of Spokane. Fairchild was a SAC base and they flew B36's before they went to B52's. Nothing like the sound of a B36 taking off--huge pusher props AND jet engines. I always go to the local airports when I hear about warbirds coming in. We have had B17's many times, B24's a few times and even a B29, which is supposed to be one of only a couple that are still flying. And various fighters. My hat is off to the folks who have preserved them and kept them flyable. We still have Fairchild as an active base. I see the KC135 tankers all the time in and out of Fairchild. Once in awhile we see a B52 or even the beautiful B1 overhead, but nothing like when Fairchild was a SAC base. I sure would like to hear a B36 again, but I have read that there are not any still flyable and also that they were extremely expensive to fly. So probably only a memory....

Jon called me to help him discover why his tractor wouldn't start
