This is a photo of a 10SI alternator with the #2 terminal jumpered to the large output stud. The wire from the #1 "switched excite" terminal has a 1N5008 diode in it, and would be connected to the switched side of the ignition switch. If the tractor has a magneto, an oil pressure switch can be used to power the "switched excite wire" only while the tractor is running (and has oil pressure to turn the switch on). A 10 Ohm 5 or 10 Watt resistor can be used in place of the diode, or a # 194 lamp, or lamp of equivalent current draw can be used, as well. Also, see BobM's diagrams, at the link below:
