Grey tractors are tractors not intended for use here in the US. They don't have all of the required safety equipment, such as PTO shields, ROPS, etc. Some of them have PTO's which turn at non-standard (ASAE defined) speeds, as well as in the wrong direction. The biggest drawback, however, is that most dealers won't even talk to you about them. To get parts is a hit & miss proposition. Some sites here have attempted to cross over the grey Kubotas to the US counterparts, but not all of them directly cross. The advantage is a pretty significant price reduction over "US Intended" tractors. These can be spotted by having Japanese or Chinese writing on the ID plates. Grey Kubotas can usually be spotted by the model number ending with a 1. (ex: L1501, L2001, L2501, etc.) Grey Yanmar's are a little harder to spot, but will still have the Japanese/Chinese writing on them. Hope this helps, Tommy D.
