Chris, $500 is cheap, but with 266,000 miles and a $500 price tag there may be quite some $$$$$ in keeping the truck running and moving. Unless you know the truck and the person well enough you can trust him and the previous maint. '88 was the first year on thesae I beleive and they may have some issues at them miles. I would have it checked out by a GM mechanic. you can easily spend $5000 if the engine, tranny, transfer case, or other parts of the dive train are worn bad. I just bought a '97 1 ton with a 454 2500# booster springs, with 5th wheel and snow plow ready with 160,000 miles for $3500, but I purchased it from my father in law who treats his trucks better than his wife , kids or himself. You may be better off spending a few more $ and get some thing newer and less wore out. Let us know what ya do.
