Nebraska Cowman is sending you down the right road. Over a period of time the contacts on a set of points become corroded and the best way I have found to clean them is to use either rubbing alcohol or a can of Brake-Clean soaked on a clean paper sack. If you have an ohm meter or test light you can confirm continuity through the contacts. Hope this helps.
