If two 6 volt batteries are wired parallel you increase the cranking amps and the 6 volt generator will keep the batteries charged if working right. When two 6 volt batteries are hooked in series the output is 12 volts and this would ruin your coil & lights and the gen & reg. When batteries are parallel the terminals are connected -to- and +to+. The same is with two 12 volt batteries hooked in parallel the output is 12 volts. If 12 volt batteries are hooked in series the output is 24 volts and this is used by the military. We used (8) 12 volt batteries hooked in series & parallel to get 24 volts for vehicles with big engines. You are right it is better to use 2 good batteries. Hal PS: I had a diesel pickup that had two 12 volt batteries hooked in parallel for starting. I think I would use a 6 volt alternator if using 2 batteries.
