It's like we've learned something from mistakes or experiences. I always made firewood with just a tassle cap on my head like my grandpa. I now have 1 real eye, a nose wired to the ribs that were moved to be my upper jaw and face and false teeth replacing the ones I swallowed and breathed in. After a month in a trauma center I now wear a hardhat when I fell trees. In the shop when I saw young cowboys (no offense to real cowhands) sliding oily 1/2 ton dies on oily diecarts with no respect and same goes for big flywheels I told them what can happen. Some won't listen and that's time to walk away. Twenty five years ago,I only saw the better part of one mans hand in a die after he removed a guard to make parts faster. The cops arrive first to check and OSHA comes in a day, for lawsuits. I'll just tell you the hand doesn't look like a hand at .050 clearance, I still remember. Workers didn't say "the poor guy", you just heard "that was dumb". The newer presses are pretty much "idiot proof" just for that reason. If you go through the windshield or your car rolls over you, you probably won't have another chance. When you're dead, rights won't change things. By the way I'm not the same Bill in Wisconsin.
