Like many, I've had my share too. Probably the hardest thing I've had to do so far is take them in and put them to sleep when their health fails them. But then again, I'd never send any of them out on their own without being there to talk them through it, not one ever turned their back on me. Then bring them home and lay them out so that the others could come up and give them a curious smell and know that they're gone and not just disappeared before I bury them. It's a tough thing. I'm down to one lab, Lou now, and he's my buddy. When I get home from Illinois on Friday nights, straight into the truck and down to the store for a piece of meatloaf, then head out the window with ears flopping in the wind and snorting at the pigs, horses, and the others. That's my buddy, and when he's gone, no more. I don't see myself as going through putting another one to sleep again. Sorry about your family's and your loss. Mark
