Briggs starters come in various sizes. Make sure your getting the right one for that engine. Sound like the ones you are burning out are to small to turn that engine. Get all the info off your engine, type, model, etc. Then go to briggsandstratton.com, you can find a complete parts break down for any engine they build. Hope this helps, I"ve had the same problem.
