Onan was once a part of Studebaker. (And so was Gravely). They were a traditional manufacturing company in Minneapolis. Over the years they've been subjected to buy-outs and mergers. It's now owned by Cummins. That said, it's still a going concern but it makes its money with high-end stuff like emergency generators for hospitals, and apu's for boats and yachts and RV's, as well as military power generator units. These are the kinds of customers who don't let the equipment get into the state where they need repairs. They get new ones on a regular schedule. They used to have a whole line of watercooled engines besides the two cylinder aircooled ones you see on lawn tractors. It's hard to tell from their site if they still build any in-house engines. Maybe one for arcwelders only. http://www.onan.com/onan/aboutus/home.jsp
