One good battery will start the engine...my guess is that it starts on 12v ,runs on 6v...have the coil checked (at N.A.P.A.)and look for a 12v to 6v voltage reducer....it will look like a spring inside a bakelighe holder ....you have 12v going in, the coil spring disapates 6v and you have 6v left at the other end.....if you think its bad wire around it.....if it starts you need a new voltage reducer.....dont run it too long,the points and condcer are made for 6v.....Good luck Don L C
