Hugh, My Uncle, upon his return form the Marine Corps in 1946, hooked up with a threshing crew in Texas and continued north into Sask. It was an experience he never forgot nor ever regretted, and he has blessed us with stories of his adventure for nearly 60 years now. Even if farming does not become a lifelong avocation, like military service, it can be an incredible experience for a young man, and one that he will carry with him and share with his grandchildren. Whether it is working on a dude ranch, a dairy farm, or crop farming, there is much a young man can learn about life and being out on his own from such an experience.
