Mike, I did the same thing to my 630 about twenty years ago and I haven't had a bit of trouble with the shaft since then. I use it for loader use year-round. The 620 orchard's governor housing was already drilled and tapped because they used a bigger hyd pump, and the late 630's came with the hole there too, but it had a pipe plug in it, so mine was as easy as unscrewing the plug and piping oil to it. I don't know why Deere didn't pressure lube all of them from the factory.
