But what if you own the truck and trailer anyhow? The professionals have to cover fixed costs (depreciation, interest and payments, insurance), and the amateurs only have to cover variable costs (those that are only incurred because you made this particular trip- fuel, repairs and maintenance). As far as insurance is concerned, most amatuers "run naked", and the owner of the tractor is definitely taking a risk- but may be willing to take that risk in order to have a tractor hauled for a realistic price in relation to the value of the goods. The hauling board, in my view, isn't really for pros looking for hauls (although it is a way for buyers to find someone if they want to go that route)- its more for us amateurs who want to help each other out.
