Microsoft did the assigning of the program to each computer by number to eliminate using on any other computer, another recovery will not work. I contracted the sasser worm and the only way to get the fix was by using a 98 computer to download the fix. Does your's go to a different home page after connecting?. The recovery discs [8] should appear when you try the recovery to a previous time and should state create recovery discs. Try the Microsoft help page and ask to create a new set. If you have norton try to get through and update the AV files. I'll check nortons page and see what I can find.
