I thought the same as you did, but now I think that they run a straight auction. I used to bid what I wanted to bid at the start of the auction only to have some one out bid me in the last 2 minutes of closing. It seemed to me that who ever wanted the item would just keep bidding until he got top bid. They had posted a higher bid later. Now I just monitor the item to see what the price is and do not bid (don't want them to know some one else is interested) it gives them a false sence of security. Since I have high speed internet, I put my bid in at about 20 to 15 seconds before closing (you have to set your watch to ebay time to do this). This way even if it is incremented the other person has only one chance to bid unless he puts in a higher amount that the increment. I am counting on the person to have a false sence of secuity as I have never bid on the item before. Should he put in a bid higher than me and and it is incremented he will get the item. So far I have not lost any bids but then I have not bid on Ebay for about 6 months. I am only sharing this with you folks as I think that most of you are salt of the earth type of people. Good bidding.
