I am not familaiar with a Ford 601. I will say that in general that engines run better warm. A temp of 190 is fine genarally. 200 is fine too. My Allis Chalmers WD owners manual says something to that effect. Especially for "tractor fuel", which needs a higher temperature to vaporize parperly. My 86 slant six runs best at about 200 degrees. Engines generally run better warm, and wear less too.
