The "knock" could be anything from a loose flywheel (grab the flywheel while it's NOT running and see if you get any movement in or out), to low oil pressure (it should read in the M range if it's an original gauge, or about 20 psi if it's aftermarket, with the engine running at a fast idle), to worn rod or main bearings, which is a lot of work and money. You might also check to see that it has enough, and proper grade oil. Sorry this isn't much to go on, but it's a start. Check oil level, then flywheel, then oil pressure. Those are the simple things to check, and fairly easy to correct. Internal engine repairs sound like they might be a bit beyond your current understanding. Hope this helps, and good luck!
