My Grandad and Dad used to farm with three horses until 1949. Then they bought a farmall Super A. The last horse left the farm in 1959. In 1956 they bought a small tractor for orchard work: a German built Holder B10D (which I still have, nostalgia...). The Super A was replaced in 1957 with a Neuss, Germany built Farmall D430 with fast hitch. In 1963 a D430 narrow thread was added for heavier orchard work like mowing and spraying. My brother operates the farm now; he has three Internationals and one John Deere. I'm proud to have the old trusted Holder and am restoring a Super A (not the one my Grandad bought new, but still, nostalgia... since I've absolutely no need for tractors in my job).
