John, I'll give you a pediatrician and father's point of view. First I would ask, whats the rush? Yes, guys on here are proud of driving tractor since they were two, but let me tell you, once you have seen a kid chewed up by a PTO you will think twice. Ask youself why you want/need them to drive? Is it to help work the farm, or because you want them to be like us? Keep in mind children even through age 16 may lack the kind of judgement they would need to get them out of a mess. You and I both know that farm equipment is serious stuff and the old time stuff we run lacks alot of the safety features of newer equipment. In the end you know your child best. When you feel he/she has the physical strength and coordination to work the controls, brakes etc and the emotional maturity to handle it, then train them well and put them to work.
