That piston slap BR mentioned is the downfall of that engine. My 98 model had 33,000 easy miles when Ford installed a new engine. The new one Ford installed has about 40,000 on it and it's starting to slap too. In 97 and 98 they never got the bugs out. The local Ford shop foreman that I do bisness with says that the 4.0 and 4.2 both have a block flaw. If that engine is good and don't slap at you the next thing to consider is the power loss. It won't pull a greasy string out of a sick heifers butt. They geared them things for golf club transport and quick trips to Kroger's.
