I don't think you were on the wrong track with Dino-oil for our dubious friend here. But he IS right, mineral, aka Dino-oil, regular oil, non-synthetic, will not keep an engine running for very long. BUT !!!!!! BIG BUT HERE... It is reformulated with additives neccessary to make it compatible to run in I.C engines as it has since the "Dinosuar Age" of automtive history. Synthetics were developed, or a reasonable counterpart to todays synthetics, by The Standard Oil Company around the late 1920's. and Germany used it on the frozen battlefields so the vehicles would start.You'll NEVER see a jet engine run on "mineral" oil as they all have had synthetic in them since the late 40's. Regular oil (mineral) is all we have had to run in cars until AMSOIL developed the world's first API rated oil and marketed it in 1972. AMSOIL is a company of "FIRSTs" and continues today to produce the highest quality synthetics available,bar none ! EVERYONE out there just keeps trying to play catch-up.
